Guan Yi Series |
| |
“This series is born out of my
own creative experiences, from a mixture of actions, visions and excitement. Water
and acrylic flow freely on the canvas and as I see the canvas glowing and
changing, the lines and reflections take on a life of their own, a miraculous
life symphony.
Propylene pigment, oil pigment,
ink, water, thinners, oil and coloured material, light and shade, thinness and
thickness, the flow of my brush repeatedly covering the canvas, adding and
creating texture and subtle differences fascinate me as I endlessly experiment.” |

| About My
Prints |
| |
|
| “I
got into print making by chance. In
the Spring of 2005, I went to my friend’s printing company and discovered hand
screen printing equipment there. I
had a go and it went from there, it captivated my creativity and in 3 years I
have already made about 80 images. As I enjoy the process so much, I often get inspired in the middle of a piece
and change colour or suddenly add new elements. So in this respect my print making is characterized
by a deconstruction of the plural nature of prints as nearly every version and
number is independent and unique for subtle reasons. I think that style is just a
formality. I use my work to express
my varied emotions and with that I produce varied styles of work.” |

Extras is the series of photographs
I shot in 2008. I have taken pictures of both adults and children in this
series. When I choose the models I pay close attention to their features. I
have digitally enhanced their faces to show a magic in their reality and a
sense of performance. The thing
that has impressed me the most are the unique small features and sluggish looks
I manage to get before my camera.
The
photographs of children I have called Fairy
Tales for Children. Before shooting, I disregard the innocence of children
and try to look at them in terms time: Between them and an adult, and I try to express the contradictory themes between love
and hurt which happen during that time. The moment I take the photograph, the tragic mood of the model is
intensified by the confused, sad and unknown expression, the body, skin colour,
red scarf and the ambiguous pink colour of the background. Maybe Fairy Tales for Children is a story
which is manufactured by me on purpose, but who knows, it could also be a fable
of reality. |
